We are about to start a nurse-led clinic for women attending this sexual health service and currently planning to evaluate this clinic mid-1999 looking at effectiveness, acceptability and efficiency. Nurse-led care in the UK has taken off over the past decade but there is a definite paucity of rigourous evaluations to provide evidence for providers and purchasers alike, to implement and continue such services. What I am looking for is any evidence of clinical effectiveness, social acceptability and cost effectiveness of nurse-led care generally, and even more specifically, in the treatment of STDs.
