Dear Phyllis,
There are lots of instances of images affecting miraculous rescue, 
and quite a few, as well, of images bearing wounds, particularly in 
the Byzantine east.  I'm not aware of instances which combine the 
two, but you might find something either in Hans Belting's Likeness 
and Presence, or in the references included in it.  Do let us know 
what you find.
