Professor (C3) for "Geology and Paleontology” / University of Stuttgart, Germany

The Faculty for Geo and Biosciences at Stuttgart University invites applications for a position at the assistant professor (C3) level beginning the summer semester of 1999. You must have a Ph.D. or Dr. degree and a distinguished record of academic achievement commensurate with a German habilitation. Teaching duties cover the entire field of past and present global change. The main lecture on this topic is for advanced students and extends over one year. It summarizes all important palaeontological, palaeo-ecological, sedimentological, climatological, geochemical, petrological, structural, and  plate-tectonic information on the episodes of earth history. Teaching can be done in English. Additional teaching in palaeontology and on field methods is required. Please submit a statement of your views of a course of studies "Technical Geosciences” which in the near future will complement the present concept in geology/palaeontology, mineralogy, physical geography, and geophysics.

The position requires a candidate with good communication skills and, who is eager to bridge traditional disciplinary boundaries, creating innovative ways of cooperation with applied geophysics and technical biology. We, therefore, expect research activities along the interfaces between traditional fields of investigation. It is anticipated that you will take a leading role in developing a new focus, for instance in the field of modelling sedimentary and/or biological systems.

The University of Stuttgart especially welcomes applications from female scientists; furthermore, it is also an explicit policy to foster the start of business under the roof of a department. We, therefore, are particularly looking forward to hearing your ideas on new, innovative or alternative fields of activity for graduates in geosciences.

If you are interested in taking this opportunity, please send a complete and detailed application until January 18, 1999, to: Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Görtz, Dean, Faculty of Geo and Biosciences, Herdweg 51, D    70174 Stuttgart, Germany.

Scientific presentations and interviews will be on February 15 and 16, 1999.  Additional information may be obtained by mailing to: [log in to unmask]
