Help build the UK Virtual Science City

The UK Virtual Science City is an innovative website, being developed with
funding from the Office of Science and Technology (OST) and the Engineering
and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), which aims to use the city
to:

* provide information on science, engineering and technology (SET) relevant
to peoples* everyday lives;

* improve constructive debate about the issues raised by SET, including
those associated with risk and uncertainty;

* encourage a range of institutions representing different aspects and
interests in SET to put up their own buildings in/link to the city so as to
make it the first point of call for information, debate and collaborative
possibilities related to UK science and technology.

The work done up till now on Science City can be seen at
www.sciencecity.org.uk. We are currently recruiting two staff to take prime
responsibility for its development over the next two years, involving a much
wider range of material and better ways of presenting it.

One post is for a website development specialist whose skills/experience
profile would be:

essential:   HTML, Perl, Javascript
desirable:   Photoshop, DHTML, CSS
useful: Unix, Outlook, Illustrator, Shockwave, Director, Project Management

The second appointee would have science writing/editing skills and
experience in marketing, ideally of websites. Experience in the software
listed above would be an additional advantage for this position.

Both appointees need to be good team players willing to take a full part in
a small but lively organisation and in dealing with a wide range of academic
and business organisations who may contribute to Science City. We are
located in pleasant offices in Westminster and offer salaries in line with
qualifications and experience and 25 days paid holidays a year. We would
like appointees to start work in December 1998.
