EUROPEAN UNION OF GEOSCIENCES EUG 10 STRASBOURG, FRANCE 28 March - 1 April Call for Abstracts (Deadline: 15 November 1998 !!) Symposium G6 "Interaction between tectonic and Earth surface processes". Convenors: Iain Stewart (Brunel,UK) Philip A. Allen (Dublin, Ireland) Theme: The symposium will consider the role of surface processes in expressing, influencing and possibly even driving geodynamic processes at a variety of different scales, from local to continental. At a broad scale, the complex interchange between 'exogenic' and 'endogenic' phenomena is evident from links between orogenic uplift, denudation and sediment transfer in young mountain belts, and by the subsequent effects that mountain growth has on regional and global climate. At the other extreme, small-scale patterns of landform development, weathering, hillslope development, channel incision and sedimentation are powerful keys to understanding the nature, rates and dynamics of earthquake-related faulting. Between these two extremes is a continuum of scales at which tectonic and surface processes interact. The symposium, therefore, should be a wide-ranging forum for debate, facilitating and promoting interchange between Earth Scientists from geology, seismology, hydrology, geomorphology, climatology/meteorology and geochemistry. Abstracts must be submitted by 15th November 1998. Submission instructions are to be found on the EUG10 website (http://eost.u-strasbg.fr/EUG). Submission of abstracts can be either via the EUG10 website or by mail (diskette plus three paper copies) to the EUG Office. You are strongly advised to use the www. Do not submit the abstract by e-mail or fax. There is an abstract fee (website: 150FRF; mail: 300 FRF) but your registration fee (reduced rate) can wait until 31 January 1999. Details on other symposia and sessions at EUG10, together with information on registration, accommodation etc. can also be found on the web site.
