Prize - Local & Regional Authorities in the EU Closing date: 11 January 1999 The EU's Committee of the Regions is awarding prizes for doctoral theses on the subject: "Fighting economic and social disparities in Europe: how can regions and cities contribute to a more balanced EU?" The competition is for doctoral theses (UK: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (in law, economics and social science) written by research workers aged between 25 and 35 who are nationals of an EU Member State and who completed their thesis this year. First and second prize winners will receive support for the publication of their theses and ECU 2000 and ECU 1000 respectively.
