Anita Silvers invites comments on her message and I have one. I was told
that by undergoing surgery (1948 after contracting polio in 1943) I could
(in effect) look more "normal." I now realize that looking more "normal"
also meant being able to move around in a time of NO curb cuts and other
integrating measures. But I was not told by any rehabilitation agency (I
was not aware that they existed) but by an orthopedic surgeon. It worked.
I passed as much as the average person. I have discussed the issue with
alot of old post-polios and we all seemed to have had similar experiences.
