At DC-6, I'd like to discuss the following with others interested in the
Subject element ...

Reuters is the world's leading Financial Information and News company. We
have adopted qualifed DC for clasifying the vast amount of information we
generate, to enable our customers to find the items they want in this deluge
of facts.

The DC element that has seemed most appropriate for this classification is
Subject. There are a number of distinct concept systems we wish to
represent here, including:
- currencies,
- stock exchanges,
- industry sectors,
- locations,
- organizations (eg companies),
- people,
- topics (eg "health").

Note that the locations mentioned above do not seem to belong in the
Coverage element. Let's say a News story says that Dana International has
won the Eurovision song contest. Dana International is an Israeli singer,
but it would seem to make little sense to place a code for Israel in the
Coverage element.

Now, the issue is that we have agreed to qualify the Subject element with a
Scheme but not, so far, a Type. I would like to suggest that categories
such as those listed above belong in a dcq:SubjectType.

Note: This is *not* a suggestion that the DC community produce a list of
Subject Types.

If you are still reading, you may want to discuss this in Washington.
