Cardiff University School of European Studies (language, culture and
politics)
Studentships for MSc and PhD
MScEcon in the European Policy Process: studentships

The MSc (Econ) in the European Policy Process equips graduates from a
range of backgrounds - social sciences, law, history, languages - with
an understanding of policy making in the European Union, from the
supranational and intergovernmental to the local. Core courses cover
policy analysis, social science reseach methods and the EU. Options
examine themes such as regionalism and the Europeanisation of national
administration, as well as key policy areas in Britain, France,
Germany, Italy, Sweden and Wales. In the third term students write a
10,000 word supervised dissertation on a topic of their choice.

PhD studentships in European Politics and Public Policy

Part time and full time postgraduate degrees by research (MPhil and
PhD), are available in the School. Attention is paid to providing
postgraduate students with the facilities and supervision which the
successful completion of postgraduate research requires.

Theses on a wide range of literary, language and political themes are
currently being completed within the School. Where appropriate, joint
supervision is arranged. A series of informal seminars is just one way
in which students are encouraged to disseminate and develop their
work. Conference attendance is also actively encouraged in order to
promote student self-confidence and knowledge of contemporary
scholarship and scholars.

MScEcon In Western European Labour Studies: studentships

This comparative and interdisciplinary course addresses the role and
nature of labour in Western European countries by analysing its past
struggles, achievements and failures within the context of social
history and historically-orientated political science.

The department also offers:

MA: Literature in European Cultures

Full-time: One Year
Part-time Two Years (Taught in the evenings)

The MA considers the post-war literature of France, Germany, Italy and
Spain in a transnational perspective. The course focuses on the study
of important literary texts - read in translation - and analyses the
relationship of literature to society and culture. It will be divided
into four modules. The first module will look at the development of
literary theory in the four national cultures. The three remaining
modules will address questions of identity, memory and a sense of
place. The approach throughout will be to locate texts, whether
theoretical or fictional, within a socio-historial framework.

Applicants should have a good honours or masters degree from a UK
university or equivalent qualifications from abroad.
