Vacancy at the Institute for Geology and Paleontology, University of Stuttgart, Germany

My colleague Reinhold Leinfelder will be going to Munich by the end of september. His post will be open for a stand-in by october, 1st. The position is called "Professor (C3) for Geology and Paleontology", which means that the successful candidate should present a broad spectrum of abilities.

Unfortunately, the procedure to formally re-occupy this post takes at least one year. Meanwhile, the university pays only one half of the normal salary of a C3-professor (this means somewhere between 3000 and 4000 DM) to the person who stands in during the vacancy.

The person we are looking for should possess a Ph.D. degree and must be able to teach "History of Earth and Life" for advanced students. This lecture extends over one year; it summarizes all important palaeontological, palaeo-ecological, sedimentological, climatological, geochemical, petrological, structural, and
plate-tectonic information on the episodes of earth history. Teaching can be done in English. Additional teaching is required.

The person we look for should be good and promising in research and friendly and helpful as a teacher. Outstanding didactic qualification must be proved by two letters of recommendation from deans and/or
heads of department.

Palaeontologists and geologists are equally welcome to apply; women are especially encouraged. We are fully aware that the salary for the stand-in is not quite breathtaking. But still it is a good starting point for a young talent.

If you are interested in taking this opportunity, please send a complete and detailed application together with a synopsis of your programme for the lecture on the history of earth and life to the following address:
