Dear Louise-- Have you already tried looking at the books that have been written on the influence of the Song of Songs (and the commentary tradition surrounding it) in medieval Christianity? There are at least two good and relatively recent ones: Ann Astells's *Song of Songs in the Middle Ages* (Cornell, 1990) and E. Ann Matter's *Voice of My Beloved* (U Pennsylvania, 1990).
