I've been asked to forward this to the forum by Tracey Skelton and Ruth Butler. Please reply to them (and not me). Steve _______________________________________________________________________________ Call for Papers Insiders and Outsiders: Methodological, Theoretical and Empirical Explorations of Exclusion and Inclusion (WGSG Half day session) Recent research across many sub-disciplines of human geography, as well as other social sciences, has made frequent reference to social, cultural, economic and political 'exclusion', and perhaps to a lesser extent 'inclusion'. This session is designed to focus on: the ways in which spaces, places and people are part of the processes of exclusion and inclusion; how exclusion/inclusion takes place; what role the spaces of the media, the academy and other institutions play in constructing 'exclusions' and 'inclusions'. we welcome papers which investigate the ways in which groups resist exclusionary practices and processes - either through resisting their own exclusion or through refusing to collude with the exclusionary practices affecting others. This session seeks papers exploring all aspects of the dichotomies of inclusion/exclusion and insider/outsider, and their blurring, in methodological, theoretical and empirical terms. Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be sent to Ruth Butler (NOT Tracey Skelton who is out of the country) by 26th June 1998, preferably be email.
