Sorry, Paolo, I can't help you with that (all I know about Macintosh is
that it used to be the name of a raincoat). Collate, mentioned by George,
is a tool rather for collating manuscripts than for typesetting critical
editions, although one of the output options is a standard critical
apparatus. Info on Collate can be found at the following new address:

Users of Dos/Windows who want to check an alternative to CTE (Classical
Text editor) might try CET (Critical Edition Typesetter), a very powerful
software based on LaTEX (has nothing to do with sado-maso, but is to be
spelled in Greek: Tau-Epsylon-Chi) and developed by Bernt Karasch. See:
