Dear Laura, It is difficult to comment on your angel since I have not seen it, but the following observation may be of use. Angels are sometimes shown with distinctive headgear in representations of the Nine Orders of Angels as representatives of the different estates of society. There are a range of angels, including the martial and academic in the wall painting of the the Coronation of the Virgin in Exeter Cathedral.
