     WORLD PRODUCTIVITY CONGRESS
     
     
     A major international conference with a significant transport and 
     logistics element is to be held in Edinburgh on 3rd - 6th October 
     1999.  This is the XIth World Productivity Congress, which is the 
     biennial event of the World Confederation of Productivity Science.
     
     The Congress theme is "Revitalising the Organisation: Achieving 
     excellence through people and productivity".  The programme will 
     consist of keynote and plenary presentations, complemented by a number 
     of parallel tracks, addressing issues of productivity relevant to a 
     particular sector.  Transport and logistics will be one of these 
     sectors.
     
     Each day of the Congress has a different sub-theme:
     
                Day 1 - Innovation
                                 with particular emphasis in transport and
                                 logistics on energy efficiency and the 
                                 application of intelligent systems
     
                Day 2 - Improving the Process
                                 with emphasis on improving efficiency
                                 throughout the supply chain
     
                Day 3 - Managing Change
                                 dealing with the people issues raised by
                                 change and enhanced performance.
