**Apologies for cross-posting** Environmental Information on the Internet: 21ST MAY 1998 Course Objectives This half day course aims provide a comprehensive coverage of the types of environmental information found on the various parts of the Internet. The course includes: * a brief description of how the Internet works, * what search engines are * how to make sure the user is getting comprehensive, accurate and appropriate information. The second part of the course provides in depth coverage of environmental sources of information by subject, organisation and country. The final part of the course gives delegates the opportunity to explore the Internet themselves and follow practical exercises to provide hands-on training and get new ideas for information searching and retrieval. The course will not only focus on the World Wide Web, it will also examine other parts of the Internet which provide unique environmental information. Programme: 09.15 Registration and Coffee 09.30 Introduction to the Internet, World Wide Web search engines and other parts of the Internet. 10.30 Coffee. 10.45 Workshop with environmental sources of information on the Internet. 11.45 Hands-on. 12.30 Round up and close of course. Course Leader: Ben Schneider is an information professional who has been working in the field of information provision for six years. With a previous background in the environment he has worked for Friends of the Earth's information department and environmental journal the ENDS Report as Information Officer. At present, he is a freelance Internet consultant, focusing on Internet training and World Wide Web design.
