===================================================
TUESDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 1998
at the British Universities Film and Video Council

APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING

Negotiating rights clearance to reproduce existing works in new media products
is a major issue for producers, researchers and multi-media developers.

This course will be led by Richard McCracken (Head of Rights) and Bernadette
Attwell of the Open University, which has over 25 years’ experience in
obtaining rights for broadcast, computer based publications and books.
Richard is the co-author of “Buying and Clearing Rights”, published by
Routledge.

Aimed at producers, researchers, academic authors and developers, the day will
fully explore the practicalities of rights clearance:

	What is copyright?
	How do rights differ?
	Broadcast and video rights
	Computer based systems: software licensing, network distribution
	Multi-media
	Administering the clearance process
	Workshops

There will be opportunity for delegates to discuss their own clearance
problems: past, present and future.
Cost per person including lunch and refreshments: £92.82 (£79.00 + VAT);
discount rate for BUFVC and FOCAL members and staff in BUFVC member
institutions: £69.33 (£59.00 + VAT).
