Hi, I'm the information adviser responsible for the DL Support Service at Sheffield Hallam University. At Sheffield Hallam University, we have been providing a full range of services to distance learners for some time. I have been happy to give guidance to placement students, but we do not offer them a similar service and they do not qualify as distance learners. However, we have found that much of the material produced for the benefit of DLs is also of use to placement students. For example, we have web pages explaining how to go about getting access to other libraries; listing university library access policies; and listing databases - including full text journals databases - that students can use off-campus. I am hoping to promote this information to placement students (and others) by producing a leaflet explaining how students can continue to use information services while on work placement.
