15th ANNUAL MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT
IN HEALTH CARE (ISTAHC)

Edinburgh, UK
20-23 June 1999

ISTAHC plays a key role in helping clinicians, managers and policy-makers
to evaluate health care.  Its multidisciplinary international membership,
already at more than 1000 members, is growing rapidly and 700 delegates are
expected in Edinburgh.  Papers and poster in Health Technology Assessment
(HTA) will examine costs and effectiveness across a wide range of health
care interventions.

MAIN PROGRAMME: There will be a variety of innovative formats for sessions.
 Three important themes will be HTA methodology, user involvement and HTA
relevant to developing countries.

PLENARY SESSION TOPICS:

* The UK NHS R&D Programem: 10 years on.  What has it achieved?
* Can HTA change health policy and people's health?
* Alternative models for controlling the use of health care interventions

PARALLEL INVITED SESSION TOPICS:

* HTA/industry interface
* Hot topics in the assessment of screening
* HTA and the new genetics
* How can we best disseminate HTA information?
* Is HTA a valuable investment?
* How can HTA involve users?

LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS:  15 January 1999

The central core of the programme will be submitted papers for oral or
poster presentation.  Prizes will be awarded for posters of particular merit.

Pre-meeting primers on Sunday 20 June 1999 - Get up to speed in the methods
and issues of HTA during small informal sessions so you can get the most
out of the 15th ISTAHC programme.  Space is limited so register early!

...AND AFTER THE MEETING
Post-meeting 'Clinical Effectiveness' course, Thursday 24 to Saturday 26
June 1999 - Attend a 2 1/2 day course based around workshops and tutorials
to learn about the research process for improved clinical effectiveness.
