Its multidisciplinary international membership, already at more than 1000 members, is growing rapidly and 700 delegates are expected in Edinburgh. Papers and poster in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) will examine costs and effectiveness across a wide range of health care interventions. MAIN PROGRAMME: There will be a variety of innovative formats for sessions. Three important themes will be HTA methodology, user involvement and HTA relevant to developing countries. PLENARY SESSION TOPICS: * The UK NHS R&D Programem: 10 years on. What has it achieved? * Can HTA change health policy and people's health? * Alternative models for controlling the use of health care interventions PARALLEL INVITED SESSION TOPICS: * HTA/industry interface * Hot topics in the assessment of screening * HTA and the new genetics * How can we best disseminate HTA information? * Is HTA a valuable investment? * How can HTA involve users? LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: 15 January 1999 The central core of the programme will be submitted papers for oral or poster presentation.
