CALL FOR PAPERS 'Instruments of Enlightenment' http://www.abdn.ac.uk/~enl085/conf1.htm The University of Aberdeen's Centre for Research on the Eighteenth Century and the University of Aberdeen's Department of English present a one-day interdisciplinary conference, 'Instruments of Enlightenment', to be held at the University on April 24 1999. This is the first CALL FOR PAPERS. Proposals of around 250 words, for papers of no longer than 30 minutes, should be sent to either of the conference organisers: Dr Hamish Mathison ([log in to unmask]) or Dr Angela Wright ([log in to unmask]). The closing date for the receipt of proposals is 31 January 1999. Contributors are encouraged to interpret the conference title as widely as possible, and papers are invited on any aspect of the 'long' eighteenth-century, and responses to it. Proposals for panels are welcome. Further details and some suggested topics are available on the conference web-site. There is no conference fee, and limited funding is available to help postgraduates who wish to present a paper. Anyone wishing to apply for funds should contact Dr Hamish Mathison.
