I don't know for sure about this as I haven't checked the archives If you send messages to the list as plain/text then there should be no problems with either list messages or the archives. some email programs default to sending mail is HTML multipart messages and other settings that cannot be read correctly by other mail programs and result in garbage been sent and the garbage remains in the archives.
