      	      TRUCK DRIVER, KUWAIT

		Death - shed
		on bonnet. Man
		dashed.
		Flesh made ash.

		Sockets.
		Fingerbones on wheel.
		As, all as when
		dashed, when

		struck, strike
		dashed flesh.

(I dug this out yesterday when a friend mentioned
Tony Harrison's poem on the Basra road bombing
and I wanted to post it. I hope that events have
succeeded me, and the bombing will now not take
place. The poem's about the famous picture of
the bombed Iraqi driver, from seeing it in the
Observer, I should add, not from the cover of
Harrison's book which reprinted it.)
