The Australian poet John Forbes died suddenly yesterday. Some of you might have come across him when he was poet in residence at Loughborough last year and gave a few readings round the country. He was booked for CCCP this April. Not well-known or published in this country (but so little Australian poetry is). He was sometimes called "the Australian Frank O'Hara" which is a silly tag but gives some rough idea of what he did. He was a person of tremendous vitality and vital humour, on and off the page.
