UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE CENTRE FOR PROCESS ANALYTICS AND CONTROL TECHNOLOGY PhD Research Studentship Multivariate Statistics and Neural Networks in the Modelling and Control of Industrial Processes Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship within the Foresight Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT). CPACT is an University Interdisciplinary Centre jointly established by the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering and the Department of Engineering Mathematics. The project aims to extend the application domain of multivariate statistical process control techniques through the extension of current technology to handle simultaneously both the multivariate behaviour and the time dependent structure of the data. The work will be linked to an industrial partner. Successful applicants will gain valuable practical experience as well as seeing their research ideas tested and validated in an industrial environment. A consequence of this is that successful applicants will be paid at a higher rate than that defined by the Research Councils. Applicants should have, or expect to gain at least an upper second class honours degree in an Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or Physics. The research will be carried out in the Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT). CPACT comprises 3 academic staff, 6 Post Doctoral researchers and 11 PhD students. CPACT has its own research accommodation with a dedicated NT workstation network and students have access to all the most recent software.
