CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

Managing Learning Innovation: The Challenges of the Changing Curriculum
1-2 September 1998
Lincoln University Campus, Lincoln, United Kingdom

Higher Education is currently facing many challenges:

- the need to attract new customers
- a shift towards employability skills
- uses of new technology
- new resourcing patterns and government initiatives.

All this amounts to a change in the environment in which students learn, requiring concerted and managed action.

The University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, and the Society for Research into Higher Education, have set up a network to address the issue of managing change in the learning environment. The first conference was held successfully in Lincoln in 1997, with over 100 people attending. The second conference will be held at the same venue on 1 and 2 September 1998.

Keynote speakers include:

Professor Ronald Barnett, Dean of Professional Development, Institute of Education
Professor Clive Booth, Emeritus Professor, Oxford Brookes University
Professor Diana Green, Vice Chancellor, Sheffield Hallam University
Professor Peter Scott, Vice Chancellor, Kingston University
Professor Harold Silver, Visiting Professor of Higher Education, University of Plymouth.

The themes are:

Communications and information technology - how will the use of C&IT affect the HE curriculum?
Employability - how will the curriculum alter to meet the changing needs of employers in the knowledge economy?
Research and the curriculum - what are the problems and practicalities of designing a curriculum for local/national/international students?
