Here at Leeds we only use laser printers: Laserjet 5N (now
superseded by the HP 4000 which should behave exactly the
same: HP are pretty good in that respect).

HOWEVER

be warned that printing notices on different physical printers at
different sites can be dodgy (we initially tried using a mix of laser
and deskjet, but had to give up and switch to a mix of cheaper and
more expensive lasers) for the following reason:

The formatting of circulation notices is primitive in the extreme. It
has no idea of a page, only of lines. So if the different sites have
different line lengths - and my guess is that the OKI and the Laser
will - then you are in trouble.

I can't remember all the details, but I do know that this fouled us up.
But working just with lasers is fine - and the 4000 is stupendously
fast (I have one for office work).

At City University we are looking for a reasonably priced reliable printer
on which to run overdue notices at one of our site libraries.

At the main Library we are using the Oki 395 but, as space is at a
premium, we are hoping to find a smaller alternative. Innovative
have suggested the HP LaserJet 4000N but recommended we try the list for
others' experience.

We use 11 x 9.5 continuous listing paper for all notices.

We would be grateful for the benefit of anyone else's experience.

Thanks
