I have been asked for the best-considered English version of the Stabat Mater. I have looked at RA Knox (in the Westminster Hymnal 1940) and there is another, older one in our College Prayer book (1933) - I should say Victorian. So far, neither the Net (my amateur efforts, anyway) nor various dictionaries have raised anything else. I do not want to embark on the task myself, not just now, anyway, so does anyone have any suggestions? (If anyone complians that this is not a medieval question, I counter by asking - innocently - who wrote the original...) a.c.
