This post has been funded through the HEFCE Special Initiative to
encourage high quality provision for disabled students.
As a member of the Careers Service you will develop a careers strategy
for disabled students which will enable them to build on their skills and
abilities in order to fulfil their employment goals. You will develop
existing links with employers and voluntary organisations - including the
establishment of a mentor scheme - to promote employment and work-
based learning opportunities for disabled students.
Educated to degree level or equivalent you will have a qualification in
careers guidance or a related area. You should have experience of
project work and an understanding of the barriers faced by disabled
people in their access to employment. Ref SS363
DISABILITIES OFFICER
£15,468 - £17,646 pa inc
Reporting to the Disabilities Manager you will provide advice, guidance
and information for disabled students and applicants. You will conduct
needs assessment interviews and support students in their applications
for the Disabled Students Allowances. An important part of your work
will be maintaining a comprehensive records system and updating
University information on facilities for disabled students. You will work
closely with other staff in Student Services.
An ability to communicate well is of prime importance as are excellent
interpersonal skills. A team player, you will be educated to degree level
or equivalent and have a thorough knowledge of disability issues. Ref
