There have been lots of proposals on lots of topics (not just OO) which on examination are found to be unsatisfactory. If you want to look at the current state of any new feature, you should go through the list in the workplan (this is a lot easier than reading the minutes to find out what was voted up and what was not!). For OO, 97-010r3 reports that the most recent papers are: 97-196r2 for inheritance and 97-230r1 for polymorphism I was not at the meeting last week so I cannot say whether these have been superseded.
