One of our students uses a MiniPict, It cost around UKP 80 for blind users.
He thinks it's great, very lightweight. He's had it for ten years now.

from RNIB - not in the catalogue but you can ring them.

* Dear colleagues,
* Is there such a thing as a portable brailler? Has anybody heard of
* one that is smaller than a Perkins, light enough for a student to
* carry around in her bag? Preferably a manual unit.
* I would appreciate any tips.
* Thanks in advance.
