ADVERTISEMENT UNIVERSITY OF EINBURGH DISABILITY OFFICE In 1994, the University established the post of Disability Co-ordinator to advise on support for disabled students. It now wishes to appoint the following additional staff to the Disability Office, which is part of the Student Services and Learning Support Planning Unit: Dyslexia Study Advisor (full-time in term time and half-time during vacations). All posts will be responsible to the Disability Co-ordinator and applicants require an interest in and awareness of disability issues. DYSLEXIA STUDY ADVISOR The University currently has around 200 students with a specific learning difficulty. The Dyslexia Study Advisor will be responsible for undertaking diagnostic and needs assessment, developing individual and group support for dyslexic students, raising awareness of Dyslexia among students and staff, contributing to policy and procedures, and liaising with academic staff and the Registry in respect of access to the curriculum and examination procedures. The successful candidate will be a degree holder and have a relevant qualification and experience in learning support. S/he will be familiar with recent developments in the assessment and support of dyslexic adults, and have extensive experience of supporting students in a learning environment, preferably at higher education level. The post will be full-time in University term-time and half-time in vacations. The salary is on the scale stlg12,387 - stlg18,619 for an average of 28.6 hours per week, depending on qualifications and experience. DISABILITY ADVISOR The Disability Advisor will work closely with the Disability Co-ordinator to provide an assessment and support service to students with a wide range of disabilities. Duties will include working with prospective and current disabled students to ensure that their particular requirements are met, liaising with academic and other departments and outside agencies as required. The successful candidate will be a degree holder, have a good general awareness of disability equality issues, and possess specialist knowledge in relation to one of more types of impairment. In addition, experience of working in a higher education setting will be an advantage. The post is part-time (9 hours per week) for University term-time only. The salary is on the scale stlg2,742 - stlg4,121 for an average of 6.33 hours per week inclusinve of holidays, depending on qualifications and experience.
