I certainly agree with George Ferzoco. Duby's contribution to medieval studies was highly significant. He was a credit to the Annales School. Aside from his economic history/agrarian history, there is his early work on the Maconnais, and his collected essays on chivalric society, not to mention his general/art historical/popularizing books. When he came to speak at Edinburgh, he was very courteous, dignified without being pompous, and never a prima donna. Those, like him, at the very top seemingly have left all pettiness behind.
