Diploma in Primary Care Therapeutics

This stimulating part-time course is aimed specifically at practising General Practitioners wishing to improve their knowledge of therapeutics as applied to Primary Care.  The course comprises 12 study days and distance learning over the academic year October 1996- June 1997.  Candidates who successfully complete the course and final examination will be awarded the Diploma in Therapeutics of Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, University of London.

The course emphasises critical analysis and the practical application of therapeutics to primary care and will yield tangible benefits to  the candidates own practice.  The course covers topics of current interest and significance in primary care such as;  therapeutics as applied to primary care, drug selection in the main therapeutic areas, formularies, guidelines and protocols, shared care prescribing, computerisation, alternatives to prescribing, , evidence based practice, pharmaco-epidemiology, drug safety, pharmaco-economics, the pharmaceutical industry and prescribing audit and research.
  
The education methods used emphasise critical analysis and interactive group work and include lectures, workshops, audit sessions, advanced preparation packages and a small research project. 

The course is organised by the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School.  Participants from the London Incentive Zone (LIZ) may apply to the LIZ Educational Incentives Programme for funding under the Personal Education Plan (PEP) scheme.

Course fee:   	£1,500 (LIZEI PEP funding is available for GPs from the LIZ area)

PGEA accreditation:	24 FULL DAYS of PGEA. (applied for)
