On the subject of seeking a single supplier for all communication needs,
Ross Anderson gently opines:

> I think that this is insane.

He goes on to persuasively argue for a mix-and-match approach.

This may turn out to be best, right enough. But there still seems to be
two advantages to one-stop shopping if the prices and quality are right.
Firstly the organisation reduces its contract negotiation/ management
bureacracy.

Secondly, from Ross' point of view, it may be more easier to watch over
one supplier's security & confidentiality arrangements than it would be
with six.

An analogy may be that a GP 'buys business' (refers patients) from either
one or a number of Trusts. One would be nice, but not always the best
option. So the lesson may be to seek quotes for all comms services, but
make it clear that only some might be purchased. If thinking about
leaving one out, then the extra hassle factor should be considered.
