There was a (genuine) report in J Royal Soc Medicine in 1992 (vol 85 p181) about a soldier admitted to hospital after a fit with some petechiae looking like meningitis. The story eventually came out that he had been chewing a piece of semtex as part of some macho ceremony or initiation rite and overdid it. So the tale continues...
