The current constraints on "commercial" posts/advertising preclude me
from mentioning how I obtained the following information on SULPIRIDE,
but here it is anyway. :)

ADVISORY MESSAGES

May cause drowsiness. If affected do not drive or operate machinery.
Avoid alcohol.

INDICATIONS

H/O: Schizophrenia, Schizophrenic disorders

CONTRAINDICATIONS

O/E - unconscious/comatose
[M]Phaeochromocytoma, NOS
[M]Phaeochromocytoma, malignant
Porphyrin metabolism disorders, Pancytopenia NOS, Parkinson's disease
Other extrapyramidal disease, [D]Coma and stupor, Other antipsychotics
poisoning
Other tranquiliser poisoning, Accid. pois. - tranquilisers
AR - other major tranquilisers

PRESCRIBER CAUTIONS

For specific detailed current CSM advice regarding SULPIRIDE see BNF
Not recommended for children
See BNF andproduct data sheet for detailed dosage advice regarding
SULPIRIDE
CSM warning regarding neuroleptic malignant syndrome with SULPIRIDE
Causes pain at site of injection

SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation, Difficulty with micturition, Agitation, Depression
Insomnia, Convulsions, Drowsiness, Blurred vision, Apathy, Erythema
Tachycardia, Nasal congestion, Pyrexia, Hypothermia, Haemolytic
anaemia
Impotence, Nightmares, Extrapyramidal symptoms, Retinal exudate or
deposits, Cataract, corneal opacity, Conjunctival deposits, Cardiac
dysrhythmias, Hypotension, Gynnaecomastia, Galactorrhoea, Cellulitis
or abcess at site of injection, Contact dermatitis, Sedation,
Dyskinesia,
Induration of skin at site of injection, EEG abnormal, ECG abnormal,
Malignant hyperpyrexia, Leucopenia, Leucocytosis, Agranulocytosis

OTHER INFORMATION

May precipitate coma in liver disease, Avoid in severe renal failure
Avoid if possible or reduce dose in moderate renal failure,
Increased cerebral sensitivity in severe renal failure
Neonatal extrapyrimidal effects reported occasionally
Avoid in lactation if possible, Best avoided as significant amounts
in breast milk
Animal studies indicate possible adverse effects on infant's
developing nervous system

INTERACTIONS

AMANTADINE - no adverse interaction reported but BNF warns about the
extrapyramidal
(parkinson-like) side-effects of antipsychotics. These woudl be
expected to
oppose the effects of AMANTADINE used for parkinsonism. Monitor if
both drugs used.

BROMOCRIPTINE - no adverse interaction reported but BNF warns that the
antiprolactin
and anti-parkinson effects of BROMOCRIPTINE are possibly opposed by
antipsychotics.
Monitor if both drugs used.

CABERGOLINE - no adverse reports but because SULPIRIDE is expected to
oppose the
antiprolactin effect of CABERGOLINE (dopamine receptor antagonism) the
makers
advise avoidance.

LEVODOPA - anti-parkinsoneffects reduced/abolished by SULPIRIDE.
Antipsychotic effect
of SULPIRIDE possibly reduced by LEVODOPA. Makers advise avoidance
where possible.
Only give together if the outcome can be well monitored.

Hope this is useful.
