Troublemaking: Why You Should Organize Your Workplace 
No advance for working people has been achieved without troublemaking. No worker is ‘unorganisable’ and  Lydia Hughes and Jamie Woodcock draw a number of lessons about why organising at work is the first step  in building another world.  

17:30-18:00: Gregor Gall 
 
Mick Lynch: The Making of a Working-Class Hero 
Many called Lynch a ‘working-class hero’ in the summer of 2022. How does this characterisation now stand up? The talk will consider the efficacy of his industrial and political strategies, suggesting disappointment may be in the air. This disjuncture will be explained.

THE SPEAKERS

Jamie Woodcock is Senior lecturer at the University of Essex, a  researcher based in London, and an editor at Notes from Below. Lydia Hughes is a workplace organiser. She was the Head of Organising at the IWGB until 2021. She has been involved in organising with foster care workers, food delivery couriers, cycling instructors, cleaners, security guards, and game workers. She is now working towards a PhD and is active as a union member. She is an editor at Red Pepper and Notes from  Below   

Gregor Gall is Visiting Professor of Industrial Relations at the University of Leeds and author and editor of 30 books including 'Mick Lynch: The making of a working-class hero' (MUP, 2024), 'The Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer (MUP, 2022) and 'Bob Crow - socialist, leader, fighter' (MUP, 2017). His 'Handbook of the Past, Present and Future of Labour Unions' will be published in spring 2024 by Agenda Publishing.
