New BCS report on ethics and AI for professionals
A group of academics and industrial experts have some proposals for how to ethically work with AI and other high stakes technologies. This includes recommendations for professional bodies and individuals on how to ensure they face the new challenges that these emerging systems are creating. This is especially relevant to the ALT and its members.
AI and Education Turing Fringe Event
We are happy to announce that we will be organising a special AI and its impact on Education workshop at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington London on March 22nd. The event will include keynotes, including one from Rose Luckin of UCL and founder of Educate Ventures Research, open discussion and a poster session. Research project: Contemporary issues in digital assessment
A Delphi technique-based study is investigating contemporary issues in digital assessment. You are invited to take part if you are:
- an assessment decision-maker at organisational level,
- an assessment-related researcher published in the previous five years, or
- a PhD researcher in the field of assessment.
The first phase will capture key themes across the categories of Compliance, Innovation, Practices, and Technology. Second and third phases will refine these into ranked priorities.

22nd Durham Blackboard Users' Conference
The next Durham Blackboard Users' Conference will take place 16-18 April 2024 at the Durham Business School/Lumley Castle. Our theme this year is "AI - will it make or break the VLE". The call for papers is open until 29 Feb so submit to share your use of Learn Ultra with the community. The conference runs in partnership with Anthology. The early bird rate of £150 runs until the end of February and goes up to £175 in March so take advantage and register now.
