Englanders and Huns: The Culture–Clash Which Led to the Great War
Dr James Dawes (Series Story Consultant for BBCTV “Art That Made Us”)

The lecture will be based on James’s 2015 book “Englanders and Huns” (“Full of enlightening surprises”, The Times), which was shortlisted for the “political books of the year” awards and traces the culture-clash which is the background to Great Britain‘s choice of sides - a choice many of the time found very surprising - in the lead-up to the First World War.

James is also author of “The Shortest History of Germany” and “The Shortest History of England”, both of which have been bestsellers, and which have led to his making several appearances on ARD/ZDF TV over the past few years.
