Dear MMF Colleague,

Please see below for details of two upcoming events which may be of interest.

MMF RN/Maxwell Fry workshop:

The Macroeconomics Research Network of the Money, Macro, and Finance Society (MMF) is hosting a workshop in the afternoon of the 18th of October before the Maxwell Fry lecture at the University of Birmingham, which this year will be given by Charlie Bean. The workshop will bring together academic and policymaking researchers with a UK connection to discuss their ongoing research, and exchange ideas. The workshop is open to all and particularly welcomes participation from early career researchers alongside more senior academics and policy advisors.

To register to the MMF RN and get updates about calls for papers and future meetings fill in the form here

Attendance at the Maxwell Fry workshop is open to all, the registration link will be sent shortly. We will do our best to accommodate as many in-person attendees as possible, but space is limited, so please register as soon as possible. Limited financial support will be available for travel within the UK, for people who attend the full event including the Maxwell Fry lecture. It will also be possible to join the event virtually.

Bank of England Watchers' Conference:

The Bank of England Watchers' Conference will take place on the 3rd of November at the Institution of Engineering and Technology, London.

The purpose of this conference is to bring together economists from academia, markets, think tanks and policy institutions to discuss central banks and the macroeconomic landscape in which they operate, with a particular focus on the UK.  This follows the inaugural BoE Watchers' conference in 2022, which was a great success.

This year's conference will follow a similar pattern to last year.  The two keynotes will be by Tobias Adrian (Financial Counsellor, IMF) on a global perspective on the outlook for financial stability, and Andrew Hauser (Executive Director for Markets, BoE) on the future evolution of the Bank of England's balance sheet. The other panels will be on labour market dynamics, the monetary policy outlook, and Bank of England accountability.  Speakers include Jonathan Haskel, Silvana Tenreyro, Kristen Forbes, Kate Barker, Alan Manning and Martin Wolf.

Full agenda and registration details here: https://www.mmf.ac.uk/policy/

The conference is being held in person and is open to all.  We just ask that all attendees register in advance, which you can do via the website above (there is no fee).  There will be a drinks reception at the venue after the conference.

Kind regards,
Laura Coroneo (MMF secretary)
