Dear critters,

Just a reminder if some of you did not come across my first message, we have an open postdoc position in Tampere. Please circulate for postdoc researchers and consider applying yourself if your research is on climate mobilities. Deadline is end of this week.

Cheers, Kirsi

The project “The civic potential of climate mobility” (HUMANE–CLIMATE) is based at Tampere University, Finland, and is funded by the Academy of Finland. We work in a multi-disciplinary research environment that brings together scholars from the Spatial Socialization and Environmental Citizenship Research Collective (SPECS) and Space and Political Agency Research Group (SPARG). The closing date for applications is 21 May 2023.The study explores the potential of critical environmental pedagogy to raise children and young people’s awareness of climate mobilities, and to encourage equitable relations globally between people whose living environments are strongly impacted by the negative effects of climate change and those who are less exposed to such direct effects. It takes a postcolonial approach to climate mobilities and sets out to develop just relations through mutually recognized global climate citizenship. The study divides into three Research Tasks: critical analysis of EU’s migration and climate policies (RT1), pedagogical climate mobilities interventions in schools (RT2), and participatory action research (PAR) with young climate citizens (RT3). The postdoc is responsible for RT2. Empirical research is organized in a comparative setting in Athens, Greece and Tampere, Finland.

Plurality is the condition of human action because we are all the same, that is, human, in such a way that nobody is ever the same as anyone else who lived, lives, or will live. (Hannah Arendt 1958)

Each and everyone of us is situated in an 'environment' and all of us therefore have some sense of what an 'environmental issue' is all about. (David Harvey 1993)
