Hi everyone Instats is pleased to present a 2-day seminar on Conducting Interviews for Research: What You Weren’t Taught <https://instats.org/seminar/conducting-qualitative-interviews-what-3951> by professor Catheryn Khoo (May 23-24). Interviewing skills are the cornerstone of obtaining data in many research contexts, including face-to-face, focus-group, and virtual interviews, as well as interviews using visual methods. Indeed, even if a researcher plans on quantitatively coding the qualitative data collected during an interview, the resulting quantitative coding depends on the quality and rigor of the interview itself. This practical, hands-on workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to interviewing for researchers, beginning with engaging research participants and resulting interviewees even before any interviews take place. The 6 modules (spread across two days) will build on one another, and are designed to guide you through the process of: designing powerful questions that will inspire your participants to be expressive; probing answers for deeper levels of understanding of your subject matter; and engaging with participants’ data in ways that will yield meaningful insights for your research. *By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:* - Critically review any interview protocol - Design and use consent forms that work for conducting qualitative interviews - Design meaningful questions based on your research objectives - Engage with your research participants pre and post interviews - Elicit deep, meaningful data from your participants - Probe for genuine responses and answers - Provide a deeper level of understanding of your research topics Please consider coming along to this unique opportunity to acquire a higher level of interviewing skill for conducting your research.
