A Museum of the Mind: exhibiting Bedlam and Bethlem

In this talk David Luck, archivist at Bethlem Museum of the Mind, looks at the evolution of Bethlem Royal Hospital, from thirteenth century priory to modern day NHS psychiatric hospital, and talks of the challenges of using that history in the Museum onsite at the modern-day institution.

David has been working in archives since 2007, most notably as senior archivist at London Metropolitan Archives from 2012 to 2019, and at the Museum of the Mind from 2019 to the present day. Members may remember that he helped with the AfL seminars for much of his time at LMA. He has also made a number of TV and radio appearances, and he regularly speaks on the history of psychiatry and the history of London.
