5 January 2023: The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) are proud to announce Michelle Urberg as the new North American Editor for the journal, Learned Publishing, beginning February 2023. Michelle is currently an independent consultant specializing in all things metadata and the Client Success Manager for LibLynx, and brings expertise to one of the leading journals in scholarly publishing. She will be working in collaboration with Laura Dormer, who became the Editor-in-Chief in November 2022.

The North American editor helps the Editor-in-Chief to ensure balanced and interesting issues and to agree and implement the journal’s editorial strategy. The appointment of a North American Editor is made by SSP in agreement with ALPSP.

“I am very excited to be taking up this role and working with Laura! I am also aware of the big shoes I will be filling with Judy Luther and Lettie Conrad as my recent predecessors,” said Michelle Urberg. “This is a very exciting time for the scholarly publishing industry and what an honor to help guide Learned Publishing over the next few years.”

“I am delighted that Michelle will be joining Learned Publishing in 2023,” said new Learned Publishing Editor Laura Dormer. “Having recently taken on the Editor role myself, I am very much looking forward to working with her and continuing the great work that has been carried out by our predecessors. I’d also like to thank Lettie Conrad for welcoming me so kindly and for her help and support in the time we’ve worked together!”

As the North American Editor of Learned Publishing, Michelle will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to commission and evaluate articles and raise the visibility of the journal within their networks. Over the past 7 years, the journal has developed into a high-impact vehicle for publishing research whilst remaining an important platform for industry knowledge, updates, and opinions.
