Overview

The goal of librarians is to run services that meet the needs of users.

For Research Data Management (RDM) this means understanding researchers’ activities, motives, perceptions and feelings around their research and their data. This online course explains how to find out about users and their needs and then to apply this knowledge to create a portfolio of research data services that they will want to use.

Who should attend?

Information professionals and librarians with an interest in or responsibility for supporting research, especially RDM, or any professional wishing to keep their skills up to date in this important field. CILIP - the library and information association – has recently revised and updated its Professional Skills and Knowledge Base (PKSB)  online tool, and it reflects the increasing relevance and high profile of data-related skills.

Topics covered include:

  • What is their data and in what ways does it need managing better?
  • What are their drivers and barriers for sharing data?

  • What services do researchers need through the research lifecycle?
