Good afternoon,

Call for Contributors

Research Handbook on the Sociology of Work

We are seeking contributions to a new Research Handbook on the Sociology of Work (to be published by Edward Elgar). The book will aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest research in the sociology of work and have a strong focus on current and emerging issues. We hope this will set the book apart from other texts. Do get in touch if you are interested in offering a chapter or discussing a possible area of research to be included.

We would like each chapter to provide an overview of the most important sociological concepts and research in a particular area as well as provide some indication of a research agenda for the future. The book will be aimed at researchers, post-grad students, and also those outside academia in policy and practice, and so chapters should be written in an accessible manner. Contributors can of course refer to their own research, indeed we welcome this, but the focus should be on a broad overview of the field and a summary of the key research. Each chapter is expected to be around 8,000 words.

We envisage the book having around 25-30 chapters. After an introductory chapter written by the editors, we intend the other chapters to be structured under the following four sections:

Changing Context and Forms of Work

Key Actors and Dimensions of Work

         Inequalities and Divisions at Work

Emerging Themes and Issues in Work

We already have several chapters confirmed. We are open to being guided by subject experts as to exactly how chapters should be shaped and how they might align with other contributions. We are also keen to have some jointly authored chapters, perhaps combining an established scholar with an early-career researcher.

If you would like to suggest a contribution, or simply want to know a bit more, please contact any one of the four editors:
