Re-imagining Public Spaces: Subjectivity and Confessional Art

Exploring confessional creative practices and their impact on contemporary subjectivity

If you are seeking to advance your career in the creative industries and are interested in developing your visual art practice, the University of South Australia – Australia’s University of Enterprise – is offering an exciting opportunity to apply for a project-based PhD at UniSA in partnership with The Samstag Museum of Art <https://unisa.edu.au/link/46d2c70401174859ad016939e114d01e.aspx>.

As the boundaries between private and public space become increasingly problematised in our confessional society (e.g. Instagram, the blogosphere, and Facebook), this research asks how contemporary confessional art can give voice to displaced subjectivities that challenge coercive mechanisms of public spaces to present a more complex politics of self.

This practice-led research project seeks to investigate the notion and prevalence of our contemporary confessional society and its impact on, and relationship to, the visual arts. Specifically, the project examines a contemporary confessional art practice.

You will have access to state-of-the-art research and studio facilities, including the Jeffery Smart Library, UniSA Creative research facilities, a private art studio, and collegial research community. Additionally, you will have access to a number of contemporary spaces such as the Samstag Museum, Liverpool Street Gallery, JamFactory, and Nexus Arts.

best wishes
