Title:
Drowning in Data: AI Triage Systems to Aid Human Rights Workers

Abstract:
Deriving meaning from the massive amounts of social media content posted online is an increasingly important task. From supporting content moderation to content categorization efforts, researchers are designing novel algorithms - and even entire systems - to learn if technology can reasonably address these needs. Here we’ll explore research aimed at two very different contexts that share a goal: deriving intuitions from social media. We’ll discuss an approach to answering a persistent question on Reddit: Am I the Asshole? Second, a near real time system aimed at early identification of trending misinformation, MEWS (Misinformation Early Warning System).
