VRIN Paper 2: Readiness for the Serious Violence Duty

We have now completed writing this paper. We are going to circulate it
to participants first to ensure accuracy before publishing it here and
elsewhere next month. We hope it will prove to be a useful document,
especially to non-Home Office VRU forces. Please check your inbox
late-November to be one of the first to read the report.

University of Leicester MSc Student Placements

Dear All,

This is a last call for opportunities to host MSc Criminology student
placements being offered by the School of Criminology at the University
of Leicester. Placements are for up to 30 days and would commence in
January 2022. We would be delighted to have some of our students do
placements in relation to the violence reduction work you are doing.

The module leader for these students is Dr Jessica Urwin [log in to unmask]

Please reply to Jessica direct if you can help. The deadline to allocate
students is 31/10/21.

Operation Wintershield - Derbyshire Police

Derbyshire Police kindly shared with us a redacted version of the
Powerpoint presentation accompanying Operation Wintershield. It is a
partnership operation which will accommodate MSc students from the
School of Criminology experiencing placements in different agencies. The
operation is targeting street crime during the winter period, including
violence offences involving weapons which increase during extended hours
of darkness, by providing an enhanced visible response to prevent and
detect this type of crime. You can access the Powerpoint via the below
link:

Spotlight On: VRU of the Month

London's Violence Reduction Unit cannot really be overlooked with a 2021/22
Home Office allocation of £7,000,000, more than twice that of any other
area. Facing the highest offence levels and scrutiny, this figure is
warranted. The London VRU website is well worth a visit to learn of the
counter-measures to serious violence introduced in the capital. A number
of events are also planned which will be of interest to all. Please take
a look and let us know if you found anything of particular interest to
your area.
