There's still time to register to take part....

Following changes in the way many of us are working in response to the global Coronavirus pandemic, many of us may be working remotely from our workplaces, working in small team bubbles or on a solo basis; or you may be shielding, furloughed or redeployed.

Health Libraries Group (HLG) recognises this is making it more difficult for us to network or learn from others. We are contacting you to see if you would be interested in ‘meeting virtually’ with another person working in a health library, information or knowledge setting as part of a Randomised Coffee Trial (RCT) conversation, which is open to both UK and international HLG and non-HLG members to take part.

RCTs are a simple, but powerful tool to support your continuing professional development. There are lots of benefits of taking part in RCTs, including:

  • breaking down silos and reducing social or professional isolation;
  • giving participants opportunity to network, connect and learn from others;
  • giving participants opportunity to gain an insight into other health library, information and knowledge roles and work;
  • an opportunity to share ideas, working practices, or solve workplace or professional problems;
  • supporting CILIP Professional Registration candidates, who are working through Certification, Chartership, Revalidation or Fellowship (this can help you fulfil the criteria 3);
  • learning more about health library, information and knowledge roles and work around the world;

If you are interested, we will pair you up at random and give you the opportunity to have a cuppa (it can be any drink or refreshment, whatever works best for you) and a chat together.

There are no rules about what you talk to each other about... you might want to discuss your roles or talk through a new service development or way of working; or find out more about another role to support your CILIP Professional Registration Portfolio; or an interview you are preparing for. You may be new to health library, information and knowledge work and want to ask for career advice.  This bit is entirely up to you both, and you do not need to report back to us about what you discussed.

It is easy to sign up to take part. Just reply via email to Joel Kerry, [log in to unmask] to say you want to take part by Friday 30th April with a few sentences to introduce yourself and we will then:

  1. pair you at random with a RCT partner;
  2. send you an email to introduce you to your RCT partner;

It is then up to the two of you to get in touch with each other and organise a 30-60 minute virtual chat using Microsoft Teams, Skype, Zoom, etc. at a time and date to suit you both.

After your RCT, we will send you another email asking how you found the experience.

Cheers,
Joel
